Organic Markets in the province of Malaga 2013

organic markets 2013Throughout the last year we published several articles about a new project in the province of Malaga, markets for organic fruit and vegetables, initiated by the organic farmer’s association “Guadalhorce ecologico”. This project that started relatively recently in the villages of the Guadalhorce Valley, also known as the “Orchard of Malaga”, is showing excellent health.

Only a year ago it was relatively difficult to go to an organic market, as this meant having to travel within the province, while the larger municipalities along the Costa del Sol lacked this offer. Well, we are pleased to inform you that this has changed, in no time, thanks to the excellent reception of this very healthy proposal and not necessarily more expensive as we tend to believe!

Here you can find the detailed list of organic markets in the province of Malaga, so that you know where you can buy fresh organic fruit and vegetables in your neighbourhood.

Organic markets in the Guadalhorce Valley

Cartama: First Sunday of the month, from 10 am to 2 pm, near the traditional market; there are usually also some artisans who display their work.

Coin: Third Saturday of the month from 10 to 14 h, in the Plaza de La Villa in Coín. It is in this market where it is the largest supply of organic food and usually there is also some kind of animation or workshop.

Pizarra: Last Sunday of the month, in the Plaza de la Cultura from 10 am to 2 pm.

Organic markets in the Costa del Sol

There are already ecological markets in Malaga, Mijas-Las Lagunas, La Cala de Mijas, Benalmadena, and since last Saturday, in Marbella!

First organic market in Fuengirola – Mijas, Sunday May 13

We have been informing you in recent months of a new initiative that is taking place once a month in Malaga city: The Organic Market of the Guadalhorce ecological association (see related articles).

An initiative which seems great to us and which is gaining in good health: Just recently we were discussing that this initiative so far is only carried out in villages in the Guadalhorce valley and now Malaga city; really so far there was no offer of this type of markets around the Costa del Sol.

Well, our new friends from this association of producers of organic fruit and vegetables of Guadalhorce Valley, also known as the Orchard of Malaga, celebrate this Sunday, May 13 the first organic market in one of the most populated municipalities of the Costa del Sol, Fuengirola and Mijas.

We remind you that in this market you can buy all kinds of vegetables and seasonal fruits, oils, cakes, breads of different seeds, cheese… plenty of organic products, almost all from the Guadalhorce Valley. The farmers themselves offer their organic products, being 3% cheaper than non-organic products and which can be found in the classic distribution channels.

Hopefully this market will be so well received as the others: It is scheduled to take place the second Sunday of each month, from 10 am to 2 pm.

Venue: Avenida de Los Lirios (Next to the Parish church San Manuel-Las Lagunas)

How to get there: Along the motorway A-7 / national road N-340 road to Fuengirola, Las Lagunas, exit Coin or Avenida de los Lirios.

Organic market in Malaga this Saturday, April 28

Organic Market MalagaThis Saturday, April 28 we can enjoy the fourth edition of the organic market taking place in Malaga Huelin Park, from 10 am until 2 pm. In this downtown park situated just a few metres from the sea, we can make our purchase of organic and fresh products at a great price at the market organized by the Guadalhorce ecological association. As an incentive, organic food does not have to be more expensive, since in these markets products are sold by the farmers themselves, being 3% cheaper than non-organic products we find in the classic distribution channels.

For those who do not know, the green Guadalhorce Valley is also known as the Orchard of Malaga and recently has increased a lot the promotion of consumption of fresh produce from the garden without pesticides: Fruits, vegetables and seasonal vegetables, honey, oil, citrus, eggs, bread, sweets and wines. To us, it seems an excellent initiative with great success. The park Huelin is located a few meters from the seafront Antonio Machado, thus can be combined perfectly a visit to the organic market and a walk by the sea and perhaps some fried fish tapas to rebuild strength.

For now, the ecological Market takes place in the capital of the Costa del Sol on the last Saturday of each month. Other places and dates of the organic market in the province are: First Sunday of each month in Estacion de Cartama; second Saturday of each month in Alhaurin el Grande, in Calle Real; third Saturday of each month in Coin, in the Village Square; last Sunday of each month in Pizarra, in Plaza de la Cultura.

How to get to Huelin Park

By car from the western Costa del Sol just follow the motorway, following signs to go to Malaga airport, taking the exit to the national road MA-21. We pass by the airport and we stay on this road which leads directly to the heart of Malaga to Heroes de Sostoa Street. Huelin Park is located between this street and the sea.

By public transport: Maria Zambrano train station with suburban rail links and the bus station are located about 15 minutes from Huelin Park.

Lovers of organic fruit and vegetables can enjoy this Saturday, January 28, the first organic market in the capital of the Costa del Sol, at Huelin Park. From 10 am to 2 pm we have the opportunity to purchase green products which are mostly from the Guadalhorce valley, Malaga´s green orchard.

At a total of 16 stands there will be offered fruits, vegetables, bread of different seeds, pastries, cheeses, oils and jams sold by farmers themselves, being 3% cheaper than non-organic foods distributed through traditional channels.

This type of organic market is a new approach to meet the demands of both responsible producers and consumers.
