The plans for these new tourist attractions were presented in the general assembly yesterday and received unanimous support, giving green light to building works in the amount of 8,4 million euros The “Plan Qualifica”, designed primarily to modernise the Costa del Sol, does not only include projects already set into operation, but also strategies to create singular actions to enhance the attractiveness of the zone. The sketches presented in the general assembly yesterday show coastal lookouts placed in the sea and distributed over eight municipalities, each one characterised by a certain theme. The initiative was received with enthusiasm by the mayors, entrepreneurs and the various administrations participating in this leading organ of Spain’s biggest tourist region, in order to rejuvenate the mature destination. The proposal was approved with one consent and it is now up to the city councils of Benalmádena, Casares, Estepona, Fuengirola, Manilva, Marbella, Mijas and Torremolinos to devise plans how to arrange the respective coastal viewpoints. The councilor of Tourism, Commerce and Sports, Luciano Alonso, quoted exemplarily possible uses related to the traditional fishing or the gastronomy and emphasised the importance of the eight lookouts to be unique and differ from each other, so that people are motivated to visit them all.

By land and sea the originality of this action is also based on the fact that those platforms can be accessed by foot or by ship, uniting the beach with the sea by a structure similar to a walkable mole with small landing stages, which ends in a spacious lookout above the sea. The councilor of Tourism, Commerce and Sports, Lucian Alonso, assured that once definitely approved, the construction works will immediately be launched in order to realise the projects that until now are just preliminary drafts.  Moreover, the councilor could neither specify the dimensions of the viewpoints, nor the extension into the sea, nor the possible costs. On the other hand, he explained that already 70 million euros have been invested in the “Plan Qualifica” and that there will be enough budget to finance operations as the ones carried out thanks to the good coordination between his council and the State Secretariat of Tourism. Also he said that the conversations with the collaborating parties have already begun to obtain the pertinent permissions. Another point in yesterday’s assembly was the approval of improvement actions within the “Plan Qualifica”, that are to be carried out along the beachfronts of the above-mentioned eight municipalities on the Costa del Sol. The sum of these eight operations assumes an investment of approximately 8,4 million euros and the potential launch of the building works are scheduled for the beginning of October.

By this means, one intends to arrange the beach of Sabinillas in Manilva, including the continuity of the beach promenade in the surroundings of La Colina and Puerto de la Duquesa, as well as to embellish the beach of Casares, to remodel the environment of Estepona’s port by dint of a road connection with the town, and to rearrange completely the beaches in the surroundings of the estuary of the river Guadaiza in Marbella.

Other measures will be the improvement in the landscape and the functionality of the Calahonda Beach in Mijas, the construction of a water park in the last stretch of the riverbed of the Fuengirola river, the creation of a pedestrian path unifying the beach promenade of Benalmádena and further improvements concerning environmental conditions and the access to the beaches of Torremolinos.
