100 years of history linking Malaga and Coin by train

In a time when connections between inland areas and the Costa del Sol  are more important than ever, few people know that almost 100 years ago, a train ran between Coin and Malaga.

In 1913, after eight years of work, was inaugurated the railway Malaga-Coin. Most of the then four million pesetas which it cost was invested by a Belgian company. Before that moment, the residents in the Guadalhorce valley who needed to reach to Malaga city had either to walk or travel by donkey, horse or carriage.

By 1930, there were three daily trains running between Coin and Malaga, which took approximately one hour and 45 minutes to complete the journey.

Malaga Airport: History and Presence

Main reason for the airport’s foundation in 1919, was to connect the French colonies in Africa with Toulouse (France).

Since its opening the airport hasn’t stopped growing due to the high demand of tourists and also had a big influence on the tourism boom in the 60’s.

The plans for the improvement of the airport are still far to be finished in 2009 but together with the construction of the underground in Málaga and the alterations made to the main train station “Maria Zambrano”, they offer great new possibilities for an extended growth of the tourism sector.

New historical information about Torremolinos available

There have been found a few remains of ancient civilizations in Torremolinos including the Romans and the Nasrid occupation. But Torremolinos not only has a recent history but dates back much further than the Phoenician era to times when men didn’t yet use iron and celebrated their funerals in the nearby caves, proofed by 9 human skulls found there.
