New Biometric security control at the airport

Biometric control at the airportA biometric control system that recognizes faces and fingerprints and matches them with a police database.

This new security control has been installed at the Malaga airport border control. This security check is located at a passageway where the traveller has to enter his ID card or electronic passport. There is also a camera that will verify the face while the fingerprints are being checked.

This new system will contrast the veracity of the electronic document as well as consult the databases of the police at the same time.

This check will make it possible to speed up the transit through the security check for no Schengen travelers who are over 18.

Norwegian expands at Malaga airport

In the next few days, two new aircraft will be added to Norwegian’s fleet at Malaga airport. In total, there will be 7 aircraft linking the Costa del Sol airport with Germany, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and other Spanish provinces.

Among the non-stop flights made by the Norwegian company are cities such as Aalborg, Bergen, Cologne, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Gran Canaria, Hamburg, Helsinki, London, Munich, Oslo, Stavanger, Tenerife and Warsaw.

Qatar Airways plans to return in 2019

This airline revolutionised prices on the Costa del Sol’s connections with the Middle East during the summer of 2018. For a significantly lower price than other airlines, Qatar Airways offers a competent connection from Hamad International Airport to the Costa del Sol.

As a regular user of flights between West and East I can only say positive things about this airline. I saved a lot of money compared to past years and the aircraft, service and crew met all my expectations.

Hamad airport is well organised, connections are fast and smooth. If you are in the east and you are planning to visit Spain during the summer season this is a very good option.

Ryanair will charge for hand luggage

The Irish company Ryanair has decided to charge for cabin baggage from November 2018 onwards. 10 Euros for being able to travel with hand luggage and only to be able to take up 2 packages those passengers who have priority boarding.

A small bag fitting under the seat will be free of charge. Only those who book a priority fare (plus 8 euro) will be able to bring also a cabin luggage up to 10kg, others will have to pay 10€ for storing the same luggage into the airplane hold.

When asked, the airline state it is for speeding the flight preparation and avoidance of delays, who knows how other airlines do to be ontime with free cabin luggage.

This news has found conflicting opinions between those who prefer to check in all the luggage and those who prefer to carry a cabin suitcase and a backpack or handbag.

How to acquire the priority boarding or which other airline to choose? I’ll tell you about it in another blog post.

New airline at Malaga airport

The great demand from the Nordic countries with the Costa del Sol has led the airline SAS (Sweden Scandinavian Airlines System) to establish new bases at Malaga airport and London.

Swedish tourism has increased by more than 40% since 2016, in 2017 more flights are expected from Sweden and other Nordic countries to Malaga.

New flights between Malaga and France

The airline Air France will connect Malaga airport with the south of France. Through the low-cost airline Transavia will link Lyon with the Costa del Sol.

It is also planned to increase the number of flights between Malaga and Paris-Orly airport from 3 to 9 flights per week.

The route between Malaga and Charles de Gaulle airport maintains its 21 weekly flights.

Malaga airport statistics in 2017

In 2017 the airport has experienced the largest traffic in its history with more than 18 million passengers and a total of 137092 operations. These figures show a growth of 11.7% in passengers and 10.8 more in landing and take-off operations.

As in recent years, the trend is for the United Kingdom to be in first place among the leading nationalities. Germany, the Netherlands and France follow at some distance. The Costa del Sol is undoubtedly a very attractive destination for the British, who choose it every year as a place to spend their holidays.

Malaga has been one of the fastest growing destinations last year. This has led to an increase in the demand for accommodation, so we recommend booking and planning well in advance.
