Sotogrande, in Cadiz, becomes an international centre of Polo

Sotogrande is fairly unique for several years for the upscale tourism, which rather looks for rest instead of the glittering lifestyle of Marbella. The many sports facilities and hotels in the area have led Sotogrande to be considered as a major luxury residential area of the Costa del Sol.

The traditional Santa Maria Polo Club is starting a quite unique project: Close to the famous iron bridge from the 19th Century in San Enrique in the so called Campo de Gibraltar on a hill above the Rio Guadiaro, will open in a semicircle modern stables to a spacious training area.

The spacious boxes with large windows are occupied by four of the best polo teams and their small, mostly Argentine Polo Ponies, allowing the individual horse visual contact with its neighbors left and right. There are furthermore a restaurant, saddle chambers, washing facilities and everything you need for a good riding Stable.

Especially in the summer months will take place on the course a lot of activity with major international tournaments. Polo, however, remains an elitist sport. Neither is Golf in and around Sotogrande a common sport for all, if you look at the green fee entrance fees, and certainly won´t be Polo, in this luxury resort situated on the western Costa del Sol.

Sotogrande features in addition an exclusive marina and 5 major golf courses, among which is the Valderrama Golf Course, considered one of the best courses in Europe. One of the salient features of Sotogrande is the wonderful view of Africa and the Strait of Gibraltar.

Sotogrande is the most discreet and luxurious retreat of millionaires in Southern Europe. With golf as the main attraction, the development of 1,600 hectares has built quite a reputation as a benchmark in luxury real estate worldwide for its privacy, and hosts international fortunes fleeing the exhibitionism of other destinations like Marbella, Manilva and the Balearic coast.
