This fair has been declared of International Tourist Interest and is very popular. A must visit if you are in the area. I will explain in detail how to get there at the end of this post.

Many of you will already know about this fair, so the next thing I’m going to say is when it takes place this year. For those of you who don’t know about this fair, I recommend to continue reading all the post.

When is the fair in Jerez and how long does it last?

The fair in Jerez or Horse Fair in 2020 is from 9 to 16 May in Cadiz.

It is usually celebrated one week after the April Fair in Seville, which also depends on Easter.

The fair has a duration of 7 days although there have been years when the duration was of 9 days.

About the Horse Fair in Jerez

Jerez fair is one of the most important festivals in the province of Cadiz, many compare this event to Easter. Its origin dates back to the Middle Ages, when most of cattle fairs were born.

Unlike other fairs, in Jerez horses continue to have great weight and their own parallel fair, hence their popularity. The name Horse Fair was given to the fair in 1966, a few years before the Cattle Fair disappeared in the 1980s.

The fair that you can find today is celebrated in the González Hontoria Park and has many activities and shows related to the world of the horse: Horse riding, horse shows or competitions, among other activities.

A unique opportunity to enjoy the well-known sherry wines, the spectacular Paseo de Caballos and Flamenco in the same place; elements that are totally integrated during the fair days and that work perfectly as tourist attractions.

The 2018 edition of the fair focuses on the purebred Spanish horse.

Special features of Jerez Fair

Around 200 public booths where you can taste typical local dishes, fish and seafood. There is also a wide choice of Iberian products and cheeses to go with a good glass of sherry wine.

There are two fairs, the day fair and the night fair, both with their own appeal.

Day Fair in Jerez

The daytime fair features high level of activity. It is a very colourful fair where you can also enjoy horse exhibitions.

It is traditional the Riders and Horses Walk from 01:00 pm to 07:30 pm. A multitude of riders and carriages walk through the streets of the fair giving a spectacle of order and elegance.

Fair booths are one of the popular places to go during the day fair; you can enjoy the local cuisine, all have their own bathroom adapted to people with mobility problems.

If you don’t know it, the typical “rebujito” is a mixture of wine and soft drink and is the ideal drink for the hottest days.

Night Fair in Jerez

The first thing that catches the eye at the Jerez night fair is its lighting. It is the favourite fair for children because of the presence of mechanical attractions. The elderly will also be able to enjoy, in addition to the music and gastronomy offered by the fair booths and fast food stalls.

The most popular place for the night fair is the so-called Hell Street (Calle del Infierno). This street is where most of the mechanical attractions are.

How to get to Jerez Fair

If you arrive by train or bus you can walk to the fair as it is only 2 kilometres from the train station and the bus stop, both in the centre. You can also take a bus that runs every 10 minutes.

Bus schedule from Jerez to the Horse Fair

Bus schedule could change, it is orientative.

  • Saturday, May 9 from 7:00 am to 5:00 am.
  • Sunday and Monday from 11:00 to 4:00 on Sunday and until 2:00 on Monday.
  • Tuesday to Thursday from 5:00 to 2:00 am on Tuesday, to 3:00 am on Wednesday and to 4:00 am on Thursday
  • Friday from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am.

If you arrive to Jerez by car you must head to Avenida de Europa. At the end of this avenue towards Cadiz you will find a roundabout with coloured horses. Try parking in this area, the fair is just over 200 metres away.

  1. Hi do you know if train s and buses run from Lebrija to jerez ,I know you can catch a Taxi which cost s about 50 Euro s ,Went to the Horse fair this year,Brilliant .And also do you know the date in 2020 ?

      There are daily trains between Lebrija and Jerez.
      About the date in 2020 I read it will be from May 9 to 17, but nothing official yet.
